Dear Curious Friends,

We are very honored to present to you our new digital compilation Curiosa 2/BLM.

Of all Curious Music releases, this one is deeply personal. I have gone from being a merely pissed-off to an infuriated American – distressed at the state of my country. The last number of weeks in particular have been very painful. Even more so as my family is seemingly, sometimes comically, every shade of black and brown. My oldest daughter is, for example, half African-American. We are, as you are, a microcosm of the multitudes.

My children and grandchildren have been protesting racial and social injustice - working toward change on a daily basis and have inspired me. The tally so far has resulted in my niece being maced and arrested with my granddaughter also being arrested.

While we are enthusiastically engaged in the moment, marching is not enough. Villains are thick on the ground, but perhaps the real enemy is passivity, inaction and lack of sustained engagement.

Curiosa 2/BLM is going to be “built” over the next two months, releasing one track every Sunday. All proceeds from this project will be donated to the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund (naacpldf.org). I am deeply thankful to the artists involved who are donating all their royalties.

I am also thankful to the renowned Los Angeles based artist Ruth Pastine who has kindly allowed us to use her work Gray Series #1, 2013 as our cover image, waiving her fee as well.

Pastine comments: "I’m delighted to collaborate with Russ Curry and have Gray Series #1, 2013 representing Curiosa 2/BLM during these critical times. The unknown has always been an on-ramp for transcendence and change in my creative process.”

First up, we have a new track ”1856” from our Texan friends Dallas Acid. A meditative, Moog-based piece, this is the perfect launch for our compilation.

We will add a new track to the compilation each week with no charge.
