about
Curious Music is pleased to announce the release of the track “Strip 49”, German composer and sound artist Felix Kubin’s contribution to Tim Story’s Moebius Strips project.
With his “strip”, Kubin embraces the open architecture of Moebius Strips, stridently weaving his imprint throughout the already skewered sound sources Story constructed from Moebius’ sonic archives.
Created especially for Story's Moebius Strips exhibition at the Villa Aurora / Los Angeles in December 2022 where Kubin was artist-in-residence, Strip 49 brilliantly mirrors Moebius' playful humor and rich rhythmic interplay.
“Strip 49” is the most recent addition to the ever-evolving Moebius Strips project which currently exists as a continually morphing sound installation, digital and CD album (with a soon to be released limited vinyl edition), and museum program.
Additional installations will be announced later this year.
About Felix Kubin
Felix Kubin is a composer, creator of radio plays, performer, media artist and curator.
A lovechild of the home recording era (he started to compose electronic 4-track music at the age of 12), his activities span futurist pop, electroacoustic and chamber orchestra music, radio art, lecture performances and writing. In 1998 he founded his own record label Gagarin Records. Over the last two decades, he has released numerous albums of different conceptual formats and played at well over hundred international contemporary music festivals. The French film artist Marie Losier ("The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye") has shot an award-winning docu-phantasma about him that premiered at Locarno film festival in 2019 and has been shown on ARTE TV and film festivals worldwide. Felix Kubin likes to move between high and low culture, clubs and concert halls, as his main concern is the shifting of contexts and expectations.
About Moebius Strips
Moebius Strips is a multichannel audio installation for museums, festivals, galleries, and other public spaces, both indoors and out.
Working with Moebi’s widow Irene, Tim, a longtime friend and frequent collaborator, has collected thousands of Moebi’s sounds, noises, samples and loops, and reimagines these in patterned ‘strips’ which, out of the context of their original settings, combine in new and ever-evolving layers on the installation’s soundstage. Moebi’s music continues to inspire a generation of sound explorers and composers, and we honor those connections by inviting a distinguished group of artists to add their voice to the Strips – to interact in their own unique ways with the constructions.
Presenting both Moebius’s material and the new interactions on individual layers of the installation, Story allows the audience a rare chance to actively explore these unique aural sculptures. Blurring the traditional barriers between composer and listener, Moebius Strips frees the participant to investigate these fascinating sounds individually, but also encourages meaningful participation in the composition itself by the way in which they physically move throughout the space.
Moebius Strips premiered in November 2021, headlining the Witching Hour new music and art festival in Iowa City, IA, USA. A companion CD, limited edition vinyl, and museum program document the project.
Longue et lancinante plage de musique convoquant en ce qui me concerne la force et la beauté de la nature, surtout les éléments liés à la Terre ou à l'Océan entremêlés ... Bravo ! roro38

This is such a great album, as it mutates with every time listening to it. Like a reflection of thoughts in a quiet deep mental lake.
